The Many Paths

There are many paths our soul can take to bring us to our calling. It is not always important how we get there, but instead how open we are to being in the flow. Going with the flow means allowing the current, the energies, the Soul's direction guide us. When we fight it and push against it we are resisting. And perhaps we then miss golden opportunities, important "chance" meetings and timely lessons.

Bringing our awareness to this flow is important to the journey. As we merge our soul's energies to those around us we feel shifts, miracles happen, doors open and possibilities expand. As we let go of our agenda and our sense of control we find a new way of being.

I have often said to a client, "There are many ways for you to get to your soul's call, you can choose "your" way, which may be the most challenging or your soul's way, which will more likely be the most graceful and meaningful." Tapping into our soul's energies often provides us with the chance to go the way of least resistance and best suited for our needs.

The many paths that our soul provide us with hold the chance to not be attached to outcome and to let go of expectations. It allows us to breathe in the essence of our soul's goal. To be awake to its nuances and to be appreciative to the wonders it is bringing to us.

To go with the flow and be open to the path of our soul takes a certain amount of trust in our wise self. It takes practice. It takes patience. For some this is the most challenging part of living a soulful life. But the signs are always there. If you feel stuck, are you in the flow? If you keep repeating certain behaviors that are not serving you well, are you in the flow? If your relationships seem to be toxic and keep going round and round, are you in the flow?

Trust the plan of your soul. Know it will bring you to the path best suited for you to follow. Let go of the false sense of control and make room for intuition, awareness and wonder. Bring your Self into alignment with the energetic flow of your soul and you will not be disappointed.

Where Is The Balance?

We pass through many stages in our soul growth. The gates open for us and we pass through. Sometimes while we are in this process of learning something new, we are developing a blossoming skill, or we may be quieting down in the use of an one we overuse and we feel a bit of overwhelm and struggle with our balance.

As we step into unknown territory and begin new practices or release one's that no longer serve us there is a tremendous shift in our energies. Sometimes we gracefully move through this shift, but many, many times we find ourselves asking, "Where is the balance?"

Imagine learning the skill of using your words wisely to get what you need in life and not taking on more than you do need. We may find ourselves saying yes to too much. Or we may be saying no too often without giving it enough thought and looking at things from the many different perspectives. Hmmm, we need to find the balance.

Perhaps we gain a new tool to use in our spiritual practice. Our excitement and delight in this tool has us turning to it again and again with each decision or prayer we put forth. Our other tools sit waiting patiently for our return, even those that would so much better serve the purpose at the moment for us. Once again, we find we need to restore our balance and learn to select the just right tool for the intention.

As we learn to master our new skills, our tools, our newest practice we find that a tremendous aspect of the mastering is in finding the balance. Our soul will help us in this lesson. We just need to remember to tap into our inner wisdom and listen. We need to pause, slow down, consider, weigh and wait. With time it will be come clear what is needed. Our soul will help us to hone and craft the best use for our needs. We do not want to overcompensate or under use. We need to find our sweet spot in the process. That just right balance of energies, time and use. When we discover that finding the balance is also big part of the lesson we then find ourselves accepting that this is as well a wonderful aspect of our growth.

Step By Step

Let's face it, we all know that in order for things to change in our lives we have to start doing things differently. Whether it is in our actions, our beliefs or our words that we are changing, we can only begin and be in this one moment. But sometimes we get so caught up in the amount of change we need to make that we become overwhelmed and stuck.

Instead of focusing on where I am hoping to get to, I focus on one step at a time. Each step affirms my intent. Every journey, no matter whose it is or where it is going, involves one step at a time. Step by step.

When my focus is on each step I remain aware. I am open to the moment. I see the lessons and gifts along the way. I listen to my soul's response. I feel what I am letting go of and what I am embracing with tremendous presence.

Also, by giving my attention to each step, I do not fall into the slippery black hole of comparison. It does not matter what anyone else is doing on their journey. It is not a race. It is not a contest. When I focus on each of my steps I see my path unfolding in front of me and am able to walk within my own truth and authenticity.

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." There is such wisdom in this statement. I don't need to see the whole picture. I don't need to worry or plan. I just need to bring my energies to this moment, this one step, holding this one intention. My soul feels the balance, the patience and the wisdom of this approach.

What always amazes me is when I practice this approach it is not long before I can acknowledge just how far I have come! It is amazing how with each step I become more of who I am with grace and fluidity. There is little struggle to this approach. There is no regret. There is an openness of possibilities.

Awareness

Some people spend their days learning more about others than themselves. It is true. For many, it is blindness, avoidance or hesitancy. It is challenging to dig deep and bring our awareness to who we are and why. It is challenging to find our patterns and to question if they serve our higher good or not.

To learn who we really are, beneath the roles and labels placed upon us, beneath other's expectations and even our own, we need to become aware. How do we do this? We pay attention. We listen to the messages of our body, from our soul, and within our heart. We also have to learn to watch ourselves in action, day by day, relationship by relationship and note the patterns to our reactions, the needs we fill, the responses we make and the things we shun.

So much of what we do in life is out of habit. We do it without giving it much thought. For the most part this serves us well. Who wants to give full concentration to putting on our socks or wiping down a counter. But what about the parts of our day that we are on autopilot and we would benefit from bringing more awareness to? Examples would be how we react to our child complaining, the time we spend eating a meal, the critical voices we listen to in our head or the way we receive a compliment.

Habitual behavior and patterns can keep us stuck in life. It is not until we become aware of how they are doing that and decide to change them that we see things begin to shift in our lives. When we make a conscious decision to change and do or approach something differently we alter the energies around us. People may react differently to us. Obstacles seem to move out of the way. We find solutions where we thought there were none.

Change can also be unnerving. The tried and true is comfortable. Doing something new feels risky. We can feel unsettled by the change. That is why being gentle and approaching this slowly, checking in with our self and listening to its needs is important.

With practice and patience we become the author of our story and step aside from the labels and roles that we do not want upon us. We live a life that is authentic to us. We call in our desires and act upon them. We let go of things we no longer identify with and have only been carrying around out of habit. Life becomes freer and feels much more in alignment with our heart and soul's callings.
