Embracing the Grounding in Your Life

How do you keep yourself from getting caught up in the chaos of life? How do you keep grounded? What do you do to not let the frazzled energies creep into your own vibrations? How do stay true to you, your choices, your vision and your truth?

Over time I have learned that there are definite ways that I keep myself grounded. It has taken consciousness and awareness. But it is also so aligning to what I want and hope for that the choices become easier and easier to make as my life shifts more and more toward what I want and need.

Living simply is step one. I choose to not get caught up in the drama of the frantic life. I purposefully slow down, create pause in my life, and make time for simple pleasures. I invest in relationships that support this lifestyle.

I embrace my soul and all its messages. I lean into my personal soul growth, looking for ways to expand and learn. I listen closely to the messages and lessons. I take an active role in my spiritual development.

I give back. I find sharing with others helps keep me grounded. Rippling out the energies of love, the act of giving, the sharing of life brings a beautiful balance to my days.

I censor what I take in. I often go on news fasts, I rarely watch movies, I am selective about what I read and what I listen to. I pay as close attention to what I feed my mind as to what I feed my body.

I no longer look at struggles as problems. I embrace challenges, knowing that these are opportunities for me to grow, become more of my truest self and to learn so much about what life has to offer me.

I also am an active member of my community. Many of the members of my tribe are like family to me. My heart is invested in our relationship. I seek to offer my support and lean into them when I need their guidance or celebration. Having a solid network of people in one's life adds a richness to each life experience.

Everyday I seek the beauty of my life. It is a shift in perspective that makes a difference in the way that one views life. There is beauty in everything around us, we just often do not take the time to notice it, to appreciate it or to celebrate it. Slowly with time we become blind to it. Within this beauty are the everyday miracles that surround us.

Finally, I find grounding energies to tap into when I seek the silence in my life. Stillness and pause are a vital part of my day. Without them I cannot recharge, I drain, I make poor choices and I am not my brightest self. Silence and stillness are now a part of each and every day for me. Some days, it is only a few minutes, but quite intention filled. And then there are the other days where I consciously choose to set aside a date with myself in glorious stillness, quiet breath of nature and little to no outside interference.

My life is fuller and richer these days. I am not scattered or overwhelmed. I rarely find myself feeling at a loss or shutdown. These simple steps of awareness and focus have brought a grounding to my days. Within this energy I find vibrancy. I find grace. I sit with peace and contentment. I see beauty around me.

Step By Step

Let's face it, we all know that in order for things to change in our lives we have to start doing things differently. Whether it is in our actions, our beliefs or our words that we are changing, we can only begin and be in this one moment. But sometimes we get so caught up in the amount of change we need to make that we become overwhelmed and stuck.

Instead of focusing on where I am hoping to get to, I focus on one step at a time. Each step affirms my intent. Every journey, no matter whose it is or where it is going, involves one step at a time. Step by step.

When my focus is on each step I remain aware. I am open to the moment. I see the lessons and gifts along the way. I listen to my soul's response. I feel what I am letting go of and what I am embracing with tremendous presence.

Also, by giving my attention to each step, I do not fall into the slippery black hole of comparison. It does not matter what anyone else is doing on their journey. It is not a race. It is not a contest. When I focus on each of my steps I see my path unfolding in front of me and am able to walk within my own truth and authenticity.

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." There is such wisdom in this statement. I don't need to see the whole picture. I don't need to worry or plan. I just need to bring my energies to this moment, this one step, holding this one intention. My soul feels the balance, the patience and the wisdom of this approach.

What always amazes me is when I practice this approach it is not long before I can acknowledge just how far I have come! It is amazing how with each step I become more of who I am with grace and fluidity. There is little struggle to this approach. There is no regret. There is an openness of possibilities.

The Opportunity of Risk

Life will bring to us opportunities to practice risk taking. Healthy, pondered and explored, experience backed risk taking can lead to two different obvious outcomes; failure or success. But there is one other outcome that we sometimes forget about. Taking a risk may end in results we had not considered and may lead us to even greater and more expansive possibilities.

Taking risks also gives us the opportunity to practice utilizing our personal power and wisdom. Bringing these energies to the moment is often what helps us move from a place of stuck to one of action. Risk taking will push us out of our comfort zone and into unknown territory. It will introduce us to new emotions, behaviors and tasks. All of which we will then need to take time adjusting to.

Taking risks brings the opportunity to be more alive within our life. We find that the endorphins that we experience propel us forward. We become more observant, we bring our awareness to the new perspective and we listen more closely to the messages being sent our way. Sometimes when taking a risk presents itself, we cannot see clearly into the next moment, we have to trust our previous experiences. The cloud that surrounds our uncertainty is unnerving, but to not take the risk feels even more unsettling.

Risk taking is often necessary. How we approach this opportunity will help direct the energies we bring, the insights we share, the receptivity we have and the courage we can summon. It takes a daring moment to step into risk. But to avoid all risk only means we are not living life fully. We are compromising. We are not expanding and growing, learning or evolving. Change will always hold a certain degree of risk. But without change we stay small and do not invite our soul to the day. We have different levels to our consciousness and within these levels are the gems to bring to our journey. We uncover new gifts of our passion. We find deeper truths. We explore and release more of what is not serving us.

I would rather make mistakes in my life than remain the same. I am wiling to fail to gain the insight and lessons that await me. I have to trust that in pushing myself, I will learn more about who I am and what I can do. Dancing with the opportunity of risk empowers me and keeps me awake!

Lessons in the Experience

I have a weekly practice that I have been doing for over a year now. Once a week, usually on a Sunday evening when life is a little slower, I sit with my journal. It is during this time that I reflect on the previous week. I take time to walk through the previous seven days and explore my journey. What were my peak experiences? What were the challenges?

There are tremendous gifts waiting for me in these past seven days. Having a bit of distance from them allows me a different view point. Any emotions attached have settled down. Any distractions have usually moved away. I become an observer of my life in a very objective way.

Now that I can back away I see the entire week with a fresh perspective. The information and insight I gain from this practice gets carried into my upcoming week. I learn where I need to be more patient with myself. I see what is no longer serving me. I adjust in my plans or expand in my hopes.

My inner wisdom is invited to the practice as it has much to offer. It is able to be a witness to my life experiences. It engages my intuition and my insight and explores the possibilities of the week ahead. I become the creative director of what can be. I use my experiences to color and shade my future decisions with the palette of what I have learned, felt, witnessed and made.

I take mistakes and create magic from them. I take disappointments and open them to new awareness. I take celebrations and pull from their energies. I am able to take my own unique and personal experiences and bring the vibrations of my beautiful and vibrant life into the newness of the week ahead.
